Ponmudi Hills are the closest "Hill Station" to Trivandrum at 62 Kilometers. Apart from an expensive KTDC hotel, a small Tea estate and an upcoming facility of ISRO (which is not open to visitors), there is nothing there. Which is good in a way, as there is no commercialization. Oh I did miss out on a dilapidated Government Guest house with excellent views and relatively cheap at Rs 440 a night. The booking is done by sending a fax to the Department of Administration (Political) at the Secretariat, Trivandrum. The hill station is perpetually covered in clouds and you should expect rain anytime. There are multiple tracks going into the hills but I do not know if Trekking is allowed. Bird lovers should like the place but I was unable to snap any though I did see the Red Vented Bulbul. Of course, the views are spectacular!
