Peermade: The Palace

The Garden inside the palace

Deep inside the Kerala plantation country just short of the tourist hub of Thekkady, lies Peermade. It is just a stopover for most tourists but it has a charm of its own with spectacular views, Tea Gardens, resting place of a pir and an obscure dilapidated palace. It also boasts of expansive (but not expensive) less cluttered tourist accommodation than the heavily commercialised hub of Kumily. The palace is in poor state of maintenance. It does give you a sense of grandeur and reminded me of Ozymandias! I was informed by the caretaker that the property has now been taker over by a Bangalore firm and may transition into a heritage hotel, so it might rise like phoenix once more!
